El Salvador had a narrow one nill victory over Curacao in their group C opener yesterday, the only goal of this game coming in the 45th minute from N. Bonilla.
El Salvador, Curacao, Honduras and Jamaica are in group C with Jamaica on top with goal difference with El Salvador second having defeated Curacao 1-0.
Jamaica started their gold cup campaign in front of their home crowd with a 3-2 win over Honduras. This is the first time a gold cup match has been played in the Carribbean.
Jamaica who are looking to perform well in this tournament started well when the took the lead in the 15th minute from D. Orvill and when Orvill doubled their lead in the 41st minutes the Jamaicans had a two nill lead heading into the half time break.
After the break Honduras got a goal back in the 54th minute to cut the lead to 2-1 but two minutes later D. Lowe 56th put the Jamaicans two goal lead back but in the 90th Honduras pull a goal back but there will be no equaliser as Jamaica held on for a 3-2 win.
Costa Rica scored a four nill win over Nicaragua in their opening game of the gold cup and go top of the group on goal difference.
Costa Rica started their scoring in the 7th minute when B. Oviedo to go one nill up, they doubled their lead through C. Borges in the 19th minute and got their third just before half time from E. Agullar in the 45 minute.
After the half the Costa Rica added one more goal from A. Cruz 75 minute to finish off a good showing and start their campaign on a good note and secure all three points.
Haiti came from behind to beat Bermuda in their group group B opener of the gold cup. It was a hard fought game and a close game with Haiti winning 2-1 at full time.
Bermuda took the lead in the 45 minute when D. Levercock gave them a 1 nill lead at the half, but in the second half Haiti got the equaliser in the 54 from P. Pierrot and in the 66 Pierrot scored the game winner and secured all three points for Haiti.
Canada beat Martinique in their opening game of the Gold Cup. Canada scoring 4-0 victory over Caribbean side Martinique.
Canada got a double from J.David 33,53, J.Hoilett 63, and S. Arfield 67 to finish the 4-0 victory and start their campaign on a winning start in a bid to capture another gold cup title.
The gold cup got started over the weekend and Mexico stared with a 7-0 victory over Cuba.
In a match they dominated Mexico got goals from U. Antuna in the 2,44,80, R. Jimenez 31,64, D. Reyes 38 and A. Vega 74.
Bangladesh beat West Indies in their world cup match yesterday by seven wickets. West Indies 321/8 Bangladesh 322/3.
West Indies batted first and lost experience opener Chris Gayle for no score but got a top score of 96 from Shai Hope and 70 from Lewis to help them post 321/8 from 50 overs but it was not enough as Bangladesh made their total with more than 5 overs to spare.
Bangladesh Al Hassan did the job again as he and Liton Dass put on a century partnership to take the to victory. Al Hassan made his second century of the tournament to help his side secure the win and Dass struck and unbeatable half century to ensure victory against the West Indies.
